If you've ever been to an open mic you know they can be excruciating for audience and performers alike. Everyone's talking over often mediocre covers of the same songs, week after week after week. Well, blast that image right out of your mind when it comes to The People's Open Mic.

Having just moved to a new home in a very supportive bar in SW Hoboken, this venerable open mic attracts a wide variety of artists. Some are experienced veterans who want a place to try out new material, some are brand-new artists testing the waters, most have some very original music that it is a joy to discover!

The secret is the host, Dave Entwistle. He keeps the whole night flowing no matter how many genres are represented and, for performers, makes the sound perfect both in the room and on the stage.

It's also one of the few places to see original local music right in this otherwise wonderful town! Seriously, too many places in Hoboken are all about cover bands and supporting the original stuff is incredibly important to this vibrant community of artists.
